2008 SAINT JAMES COURT ART SHOWTM POSTER COMPETITION

The 52nd annual Saint James Court Art Show will be held October 3, 4, & 5 in historic Old Louisville. A limited-edition poster (250 signed/numbered; 250 open editions) will be produced and sold at the show. A competition will determine this year’s poster design; detailed below are entry specifics. For more information, email:  mesrock@stjamescourtartshow.com or call 502.635.1842.

· Size/Orientation of the finished poster should not exceed 24” x 36”, nor be smaller than 18” x 28”. Orientation (vertical/horizontal layout) shall be dictated by the artist.

· Entries do not have to be 100% of the finished poster size, but should not be less than 8.5" X 11" overall, and if reduced, proportionate to the actual dimensions. Whether rendered by hand or computer, designs should be depicted in the color(s) representative of the finished, printed poster. If submitting original artwork (such as a painting), an overlay or separate color composite must show how the text will appear with the artwork. If submitting computer-generated composite containing scanned images of original artwork, submission of the original art along with your design is encouraged. ALL ENTRIES NEED TO BE MOUNTED ON FOAM CORE OR SOME OTHER MATERIAL BUT NEEDN’T BE FRAMED. Unacceptable entries include CDs/disks, photos/slides, Xeroxed copies or rough sketches of an idea.

· Design Elements might include, but are certainly not limited to: art, Victorian architecture, elements of Old Louisville or Saint James Court, etc. The design must incorporate the name "Saint James Court Art Show", the year 2008 and that it is the 52nd annual show. Inclusion of the show dates is optional. The competition is open to any and all design mediums (original paintings or drawings, printmaking, photography, mixed media, computer graphics, etc.)

The design or some element thereof must be adaptable for printing on multi-colored sweat and tee-shirts. Artists must submit supplemental artwork depicting the shirt design if it differs from the original poster design.

· Print medium will most probably be offset lithography (original to negative to plate to press), but will ultimately depend upon number and breakdown of colors. The artist whose design is selected must provide artwork directly to the printer (selected by the Art Show) in a format suitable for production of both posters and shirts (disk or camera-ready art), and assumes responsibility for any and all costs and materials associated with providing said art. The artist will work directly with the printer to ensure the integrity of the finished product.

· Multiple design entries from one artist are acceptable. The entry fee and form must be submitted with each design entry (please use the attached form as the entry, as we keep it for our records). Duplicates of the original form are acceptable. The artist’s name, address and phone number and email (if applicable) must appear on the back of each entry. Any additional information you wish to submit MUST be taped to the back of the entry.

· Entry Fee: $20.00 per entry. Make checks payable to: St. James Court Art Show.

· Deadline for entry is 4:00 pm Friday, June 13, 2008.

· The applicant whose design is chosen will receive a $1,000 cash award. The winning design and completed artwork, including any original artwork used as a component in the finished design, will become the exclusive property of the Saint James Court Art Show, which may display, publish, reproduce or otherwise use in any capacity deemed necessary or desirable.

· Notification of the winner will occur as soon as possible after the entry deadline, and the poster will be publicly unveiled a few weeks before the show. Artists submitting designs that are not selected will be notified within 3 weeks. Entries will not be returned unless you check the box on the entry form.
